Objectives
Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) is the second largest seller of automobiles in the United States. The processes and infrastructure that support customers, dealers, warranty information, parts tracking, procurement and other services are immense. TMS needed to establish the infrastructure and fulltime management team to support credit applications, insurance forms and bill payments available in their online and dealership storefronts. They also required information systems and databases that would back up warranty offerings, customer information management systems, and all other major sales and financial systems. In addition, the company needed help providing a better management infrastructure for procurement and tracking vehicle parts in U.S. territories. However, TMS found that it wasn’t economically practical to provide the necessary staff or technology resources entirely through the in-house IS department.
